This morning, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released the Statewide Standards of Learning (SOL) pass rates from the 2025-2026 school year. 

These results for Petersburg City Public Schools demonstrate that our school division experienced measurable increases in pass rates: 

• Reading (grades 3-8)
• Mathematics (grades 3-8)
• Science (grades 5 and 8)
• Virginia Studies (grade 4)
• End of Course (EOC) Mathematics (grades 9-12) 
• Writing (grade 10)

These gains reflect the commitment, dedication, and instructional focus of our students, teachers, support staff, and entire division. During the 2024-2025 school year, we implemented a new instructional framework. In the 2025-2026 school year, we introduced new high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) to ensure that all students were exposed to grade-level content. In addition, we continue to focus on recruiting and retaining fully licensed teachers for our classrooms. We will continue this work and our next steps will be guided by our Petersburg Forward 2031 five-year strategic plan to improve student growth, achievement, and success.

The SOL results are only one component of our schools’ performance. In the coming weeks, we expect the VDOE to release the 2026-2027 school performance and support framework indicator report, which will provide a more comprehensive view of each school, including the SOL pass rates, academic growth, chronic absenteeism, and graduation rates (mastery, growth, and readiness for elementary and middle school and mastery, readiness, and graduation rates for high school).
