At Petersburg City Public Schools, we are dedicated to nurturing the unique talents of our gifted learners. Our program provides a challenging, personalized curriculum that blends the arts, technology, English language arts, mathematics, and science with innovative approaches to communication and creativity. By aligning with Virginia’s Standards of Learning and the academic vision of our school division, we create enriching learning experiences that inspire curiosity and excellence to transform opportunities, learning, and success for our students!
Our gifted students are encouraged to think critically and independently, collaborate with peers, and explore open-ended, project-based learning opportunities. Whether they are coding a new program, designing a business, experimenting with science, producing a podcast, or constructing a LEGO masterpiece—it’s all about tapping into their strengths and exploring endless possibilities.

How Our Program Works

• Grades 1–8: Students receive a hybrid model of support. They participate in pull-out sessions once a week for 60 minutes, where they dive into enrichment and exploration beyond the core curriculum. Push-in supports allow gifted teachers to partner with classroom teachers, offering extended challenges and acceleration when appropriate.
• High School: Gifted learners and high-performing students have access to advanced options, including Honors courses, Dual Enrollment opportunities, Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and potential placement in a Governor’s School. These pathways ensure students are continually engaged in rigorous, forward-looking academic experiences.
