During a highly anticipated news conference, Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) Superintendent Yolonda Brown appointed Ty White as the new PCPS Assistant Athletic Director and Varsity Basketball Coach starting July 1, 2025.

This is the first time in over two decades that PCPS has expanded its athletics department to include an Assistant Athletic Director. This was done to continue to fulfill the Division’s mission to transform PCPS, and its vision to turn the page to a new day and a new way in PCPS.

White will work alongside Bill Lawson, Athletic Director, to support and continue the Division’s quest to build a world class athletic program for elementary school, middle school, and high school athletic programming. White is a graduate of Petersburg High School and Virginia State University. He has over 20 years of coaching experience and over 400 student athletes have earned basketball scholarships under his leadership and tutelage.

In 2023, Coach White was named the Naismith Coach of the Year and he has been named the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Coach of the Year seven times. White has also been named among the top 100 influential coaches five times and earned recognition from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and MaxPrep as the National Coach of the Year.

White is the founder and president of the nationally ranked Team Loaded Amateur Athletic Union Program and has led four teams to become national champions. In his most recent role as Head Basketball Coach in Richmond Public Schools, he led his team to become six-time state champions. Previously, he served as the Assistant Coach at Petersburg High School, where he held a 59-5 record and led his team to 4 consecutive group AAA state appearances. He has mentored players who have gone on to the NBA and NFL.

Now, White is returning home to PCPS to challenge and inspire students across the School Division.
