PETERSBURG, VA. (October 14, 2025)—Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) has embarked on its five-year strategic plan process. PCPS has partnered with the firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to facilitate this process. This week, focus groups will be held with employees, students, parents/guardians, and local community members and partners to determine a common vision and direction for the future of PCPS. On October 20, 2025, PCPS will hold a community town hall at the Petersburg Public Library from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

During the focus group sessions and townhall meetings, participants will be asked to provide input on division values, strengths, and areas for growth and improvement. The feedback gathered from attendees may be incorporated into the final strategic plan that Superintendent Brown will present to the Petersburg City Public Schools Board for review and adoption in December 2025.

“Our five-year strategic plan will serve as the roadmap for the future of our school division and will serve as a unifying structure for our school division and community so that we are singularly focused on the growth, improvement and success of Petersburg City Public Schools. The plan will guide the focus of our work and investments so that  we can provide our students with an educational experience that transforms their opportunities, learning and success so that they graduate with a life filled with choices,” said Superintendent Yolonda Brown.

School Board Chair Kenneth Pritchett shared, “The entire PCPS school board is fully committed to the strategic planning process. It is vital that we have a clear plan that establishes our goals and priorities to move our school division forward. This strategic plan will serve as the blueprint for PCPS for the next five years.”

In addition to the focus groups and scheduled community feedback sessions, PCPS stakeholders will also be invited to respond to a community survey to answer questions about their perceptions and vision of the future of PCPS. The strategic plan survey link will take participants to a third-party website and all responses will remain anonymous.
