Petersburg City Public Schools Recognizes February as Virginia School Board Appreciation Month

PETERSBURG, VA (February 12, 2026)–Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) recognizes February 2026 as Virginia School Board Appreciation Month, a statewide recognition of more than 800 elected and appointed school board members who champion public education every day. This month, PCPS acknowledges the diligence and commitment of the School Board to make vital decisions on behalf of 4,500 students and over 600 staff members. 

 

The PCPS School Board sets policies, evaluates the effectiveness of initiatives and programs, and makes critical financial and operational decisions on behalf of the school division. The School Board oversees a $73 million budget that impacts the instructional, administrative, and operational functions of PCPS. 

 

“It is with tremendous pride and gratitude that PCPS recognizes our hard working Petersburg School Board. I want to commend the School Board for their service and commitment as we work together to move our school division forward,” said Superintendent Yolonda Brown.

 

This year’s theme, “From Strong Roots Come Endless Possibilities,” highlights the pivotal role school board members play in planting the seeds for student success, thus ensuring that every student has the resources needed to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.

 

Throughout February, the school division will honor and acknowledge the seven members of the School Board:

  1. Steven Pierce, Ward 1

  2. Hal Miles, Ward 2

  3. Kenneth Pritchett, Board Chair and Ward 3

  4. Tacarrai Tucker, Vice Chair and Ward 4

  5. Eleanor Proctor, Ward 5

  6. Bernard Lundy, Ward 6

  7. Adrian Dance Sr., Ward 7
