Petersburg students are ready to s-p-e-l-l

Spelling champs from Petersburg’s middle school and four elementary schools will compete to become the city’s top speller on Jan. 22. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the bee begins at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Petersburg Public Library, 201 W. Washington St.

Each school held a spelling bee in December to determine its top spellers, and the winners will compete in the district spelling bee:

If there is bad weather on Jan. 22, then the Petersburg City Public Schools spelling bee will move to Jan. 29. Community partners supporting the Petersburg City Public Schools spelling bee include the Petersburg Public Library and Virginia State University. The winner of the Petersburg City Public Schools spelling bee will move on to the regional spelling bee hosted by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
