Hurricanes and snowstorms caused schools to be closed five days and open two hours late on two days so far in the 2018-19 school year. Those disruptions occurred in September, October and December -- and January is usually the month when bad weather forces schools to close. It seems likely that additional snow days are in our forecast.
Although the adopted 2018-19 calendar included more than the minimum time required, Petersburg schools are committed to positioning students to succeed academically.
Petersburg parents, teachers, school employees, students and residents are invited to share their opinions about the best approach to making up instructional time. Responses from this survey will be taken into consideration as the school system works to do what is right for the young people of Petersburg. The School Board will make the final decision.
Survey posted Jan. 11, 2019; survey will close at 5 p.m. Jan. 21, 2019.
