The adopted 2017-18 calendar included extra instructional hours built in for bad weather, but so much snow and ice hit central Virginia that students missed six days and two hours in January. Calendar adjustments are necessary. Here is how Petersburg City Public Schools is revising the calendar for the current school year to make up time:
Jan. 31, Feb. 16, March 7 and March 30 will now be full days of instruction; previously those dates were to be early-release days for students.
The end of the first semester is pushed back two days to Feb. 2.
Petersburg High School (but no other school) will administer exams and dismiss students three hours early Feb. 1-2.
Feb. 19 will be a regular day of school instead of a holiday for Presidents Day.
If more days are missed, additional changes to the calendar may be required.
