The 2023 - 2024 Pre-Kindergarten Application Process.
Petersburg City Public Schools offers prekindergarten at Westview Early Childhood Education Center.
Families may apply if they have children who will be 3 years old or 4 years by Sept. 30, 2023.
Parents must have all of the following items to be accepted into the program:
- Birth certificate (must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 30, 2023)
- Proof of residency (current utility bill, mortgage or lease; if you live with family or friends, there is a form that must be notarized)
- proof of income for parent/guardian (All adults in the home.)
- photo ID
Eligible families will be placed on the waitlist until all required documents are received as well as the following:
- Immunization record
- complete physical examination (within the past 12 months) Assessment date must be within the past 12 months.
Head Start also requires children’s health insurance cards and child’s dental exam within the past six months.

There are a limited number of spots, so applying does not guarantee acceptance.
Notifications of enrollment will be sent by May 12. Students who are not initially accepted are placed on a waiting list, in case a spot opens during the school year. 10 percent of enrollment is for children with disabilities.
Petersburg City Public Schools offers transportation to all enrolled students. However, an adult must be at the bus stop each day to receive child to avoid loss of transportation.
Westview is a NO OUTSIDE food school. Please notify the office if you need paper work for special diets.
Parents must attend an orientation in August before their children can start prekindergarten.
