Ribbon Cutting Held For ESL Welcome Center

Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the ESL (English as a Second Language) Welcome Center at its central office location. The ESL Welcome Center will serve as a central hub for ESL families to register their children for school, learn about academic and other support services, interact with other ESL families, and provide access to technology and other learning resources.

To begin the ribbon cutting ceremony, several ESL families, PCPS staff, Board members, and Virginia Department of Education representatives met in the Boardroom for an introduction on the purpose of the ESL Welcome Center. “We can not fully express how excited we are to make this resource available to our families,” offered Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin, Superintendent of Petersburg City Public Schools. “We often talk about how we love our families, and the ESL Welcome Center is an example of that love being put into action,” added Dr. Pitre-Martin.

The ESL Welcome will operate during regular central office hours, and will serve both elementary and secondary students and families. For more information on the ESL Welcome Center, please contact Mr. Nestor Llamas at 804-732-0510 or by email at nellamas@petersburg.k12.va.us.
