Petersburg City Public Schools Holds Board Meeting on Reopening Schools

PETERSBURG, VA 22 JULY 2020- Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) held a regularly scheduled Board meeting in person and online to discuss school business and the matter of reopening schools on September 8th. At the meeting, the members of the School Board voted to reopen schools under the Petersburg Virtual Academy. All students would be in a remote learning environment.

“Our staff worked diligently to be able to present as much data as we could for our Board to consider as they determined how schools would reopen in September,” offered Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin, Superintendent of Petersburg City Public Schools. “The Board utilized data from parents and families as well to make their decision,” added Dr. Pitre-Martin.

During the Board meeting, Superintendent Pitre-Martin presented health considerations, instructional options, transportation scenarios, and cleaning and safety practices as a part of reopening the schools in the fall. To view the Superintendent’s presentation, please visit  the School Board section on the school division website.
